Podiumsdiskussion zur Semesterfrage: "A civilizational challenge"

How do we humans impact the planet?" in Englisch statt.

Rückblick in Bildern:

In seinem abschließenden Statement sagte er: "We are the generation of the anthropocene: If we look forward we have any reason to be concerned, but this is a time of choices. Don't accept the argument of the status-quo. Use those choices and prevent destroying the very foundation of our lives."

Anschließend diskutierte er mit Umweltökonomin Alexandra Brausmann, Meteorologe Andreas Stohl (beide Universität Wien) und Katharina Rogenhofer, Bundessprecherin des Klimavolksbegehrens sowie Uni Wien-Alumna. Die Live-Veranstaltung wurde von Martin Kotynek, Chefredakteur der Tageszeitung "Der Standard" moderiert.

Katharina Rogenhofer: "Change needs more responsibility on our supply chains and limits on emissions, etc. But the overall issue is: We have to stop doing the wrong things. For example the building of pipelines, highways and other things, that we very well know are bad for our planet need to be stopped. But people are finally standing up and take part in wanting to stop climate crisis. And if we actually can change the system we can all lead better lives."

Andreas Stohl: "We have to stop thinking about economic growth. We can't grow forever. We are loosing biodiversity, we are destroying whole ecosystems. One solution could be to rethink our use of energy."

Alexandra Brausmann: "Degrowth is not the solution. If all sectors are shrinking we are stopping innovation. Degrowth won't make us happier. We should rather focus on green growth."
